Among other problems, a defective vehicle accelerator can cause increased acceleration or prevent drivers from being able to slow down. Numerous complaints surfaced among the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding defective accelerators and sticking accelerator pedals.

In addition to some of the accelerator problems plaguing Toyota in the past, Chrysler accelerators have also endured recalls and defects. As many as 700,000 jeeps and minivans have been recalled as a result of bad brakes.
