Did you take Yaz? You may be entitled to compensation!

Prescribed to over 100 million women, Yaz is a popular contraceptive that prevents ovulation and can also change one’s cervical and uterine lining. Yaz can also be used to treat moderate acne in woman and to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

The U.S. first approved Yasmin in 2001 and Yaz was introduced in 2006. It quickly became one of the best-selling oral contraceptives in the U.S. The usual dose is one tablet a day. Each packet has 24 tablets and four placebo pills for every 28 day cycle.

    The Dangers of Taking Yaz

Yaz can cause a wide range of serious side effects which has led to many class action lawsuits. The type of progestin used in Yax, called drospirenone has posed safety concerns.

A study by the FDA in 2011 showed that there was a 74% risk increase of blood clots for Yaz users compared to other oral contraceptive users. The study estimated that 10 in 10,000 women taking Yaz would get a blood clot a year. The drug has been linked to the death of 50 women, some as young as 17.

Bayer has settled more than 5,000 blood clot injury claims alone filed by Yaz patients. There have also been 3,509 reports of pulmonary embolism and 2,847 reports of deep vein thrombosis. The FDA has reported there have been over 22,000 reports of adverse events by women taking Yaz. To date, Bayer has spent $1 billion to settle claims of side effects from Yaz.

    Side effects of Yaz include:

    Common

    Infrequent

    Rare

Despite all of the research and negative effects of Yaz, the FDA has yet to issue a recall. In 2011, the FDA brought together an advisory board to review Yaz. They voted 15 to 11 that the benefits of Yaz outweighed the risks.
